Slate, Space and Welsh Legends
Peter has lived in North Wales for 60+ years, enjoying the outdoors, rich history, hiking and playing golf.
What is your favourite thing about the area?
My favourite thing is that feeling of space, being able to see a ‘true’ horizon not just one blocked out by buildings etc. The ability to be able to look forever into the distance, especially from a vantage point like Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon), and the fresh air.
What is the main industry locally?
Historically, the main industry in Snowdonia was Slate mining. It was once said that Wales “roofed the world”, Welsh slate has been coveted since Roman times. Nowadays however, the miners have largely disappeared and apart from a few hill farms, the majority of local people work in the Service or Tourist industry.
